Today’s topic I will be reviewing a make up line created by a popular Filipina celebrity Nadine lustre, in collaboration with Australian Make up brand BYS called Lustrous by Nadine Lustre X BYS which launched on April.
BYS is an Australian brand which is widely available in the Philippines. The brand is budget friendly & targets teens and young adults who are new to makeup or people who are experimenting with makeup but do not want to spend a fortune.
The brand ensures to provide products with high class quality with great value for money.
What made me eager to try the brand is that they are Cruelty Free & Peta Certified.
Nadine is known for her boho-ish makeup looks & style. The packaging and the colors of the makeup had a tropical design, suitable for a boho summer beach vibe. The big mirror was also a plus!
Upon opening the box, the first thing I saw was a personal note from Nadine, thanking the people who has supported & believed in achieving her dream.
After the note, here are the products that came with the kit: (2,999 PHP)
There are 5 unicorn brushes included in the Lustrous Kit.
The unicorn brushes are light weight & made of plastic. The bristles are soft in texture. I haven’t used the brushes yet when I was trying out the makeup palettes because I have to wash them up first which I always do when buying makeup brushes.
The only thing I have noticed was, some of the bristles where already sticking out. It doesn’t bother me that much, but I wouldn’t consider them a luxury type of brush. They brushes are suitable for beginners which are similar to the ones you find in the department store.
The packaging of the palettes was simple but classy. I loved the gold & black detailing of the products. The eyeshadow palette is light weight & travel friendly.
The palette consist of 5 sultry shimmer shades. It came with an individual eyeshadow brush & a mirror which is a plus!
The eyeshadow however didn’t have individual names for each shade.
Below are the swatches for each shade.
Upon swatching them one by one, I noticed a little bit of fall out & lack of at least one matte shade. I have also applied a bit more product during the swatch because it’s not heavily pigmented. If you are easily annoyed by this, you may lightly wet your eyeshadow brush or use mac fix plus(or something similar) to intensify the pigment for the look you want to achieve.
Identical to the eyeshadow palette, this bronzer & highlight palette also comes with a built in mirror and a small brush which you can either use for contouring or highlight.
The palette comes with 3 highlight shades & 2 contour & bronzer shades.
Below are the swatches,
Similar to the eyeshadow palette discussed earlier, you have to build up the product in order to get the actual pigment shade. This is actually a “pro” rather than a “con”.
When you’re new to makeup application, you’d want to lightly apply the contour shade & build it up gradually to avoid harsh or muddy look.
The goal of contouring & highlight is to “naturally” make your facial features more defined.
This palette is meant for people who wants a subtle natural look.
This little beauty is actually my favorite among the entire kit. It’s so tiny yet so amazing!
The color looks so natural. It’s so easy to apply. Even just little dip of product glides smoothly on my brows.
The best part is, it comes with an built in brow brush. I normally use a separate brow brush, but when I tried this, I instantly fell in love! It’s just so practical.
I really tried to like this product. To be honest, I can go out without applying eyeshadow, but not with mascara!
First off, when I pulled out the mascara brush, the formula was too wet. While some people prefer their mascara’s full of ink, during application, it caused immediate smudging which will not only annoy you, but ruin your make up look & time consuming in cleaning it up.
Second, When I go for a full make up look, I always wear prescription lenses, because what’s the point of putting so much effort on your eye make up when it’s going to be covered by glasses anyway. Now, when wearing contact lenses, you have to frequently(at least every hour) apply saline solution to avoid discomfort of dryness in your eyes. What I have noticed, after applying a drop of solution, the mascara formula run’s which it shouldn’t be because it’s supposed to be waterproof.
In my honest opinion, there is nothing special with the lustrous mascara.
It’s not recommended for oily skin types & people who easily sweat.
The last product to review, is the Lustrous lip & cheek tint. I’m not really a fan of lip tints. I prefer liquid or creamy lipsticks. Whenever I use lip tints, the color only sets on my lower lip & 1/4 of my upper lip which looks completely weird.
The lip & cheek tint uses a doe foot applicator.
This tint is actually misleading.
When I first saw it, I actually thought it was going to be a nude or brown shade due to the color of the packaging.
When I opened it, I was literally surprised to see a wine red shade. I mean it makes sense that it should be wine red since it’s also a cheek tint, but I just wish they changed the color of the tube.
I prefer to use this only as a cheek tint to get that flushed natural look.
**I am not a professional make up artist, I’m still in the process of learning**
I have applied the mascara on the lower lashes as little as possible due to the smudging during the first attempt of applying it.
(As I was saying, the lip tint looked weird, but It did a good job as a cheek tint.)
(In here, you can clearly see the smudging of the mascara on my lower lashes.)
The price of the Lustrous Make up kit retails for 2,999 PHP. I honestly think it’s worth the price despite of the two makeup products that really didn’t work for me. If you’ll be buying each product individually, you’d be spending more. Compared to buying the whole set, you’ll be saving 596 PHP.
The Lustrous collection also has retractable eyebrow pencils, colorful liquid liners( Moonstone, Turquoise, Sapphire & Natural brown) , another shade of eyeshadow palette (Luna) & Lip & cheek tint (vermillion).
I really loved the Makeup Kit as a whole! The sophisticated packaging, travel friendly palettes, budget friendly especially for makeup beginners.
What I do suggest for improvement though, is to change the Mascara formula and the color of the bottles of the lip & Cheek tints.
I do admire the effort that Nadine put into creating her makeup line especially collaborating with a Cruelty Free company. We should continue to support local celebrities like her next to Vice ganda’s Vice Cosmetics & Anne Curtis’s BLK cosmetics.
